World's First "Hot Ice" Computer



Professor Andrew Adamatzky, from the University of the West of England in Bristol, has created the world's first "hot ice" computer. "Hot ice", otherwise known as sodium acetate, releases heat on a cold day and is normally found in hand warmers. Read on here to find out how he managed to harness the "traveling wavefront of crystallisation" to perform calculations and solve mazes!

Reboot for UK's 'oldest' computer



BBC news has an article on the restoration of Britain's "oldest" computer, the Harwell. It is interesting to see how computers have evovled from gas filled tubes in the 1940s to the densely packed transistors in the integrated circuit we see today. If Moore's law (the empirical observation that the transistor density of integrated circuits doubles every 2 years) holds true, will be expecting 1Thz processors 10 years down the road?

"Britain's oldest original computer, the Harwell, is being sent to the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley where it is to be restored to working order."
