We missed Thecus at CeBIT earlier this month, but we got a chance to catch up with the company at ISF and have a look at some of its new products. On display were the recently announced N2800 and N4800 Atom powered NAS boxes as well as the Core i3 powered N8850 which is part of a new series of tower NAS products from Thecus for more demanding users, as well as Thecus new tablet.

inXtron shows off the Akitio MyCloud Pro at ISF

One issue in the past has been that NAS boxes powered by Intel's Atom processors have been way too expensive to hit consumer level price points and as such this market space has been pretty exclusive to RISC – generally ARM or MIPS – powered solutions. This appears to be changing, as at the Intel Storage Forums inXtron was showing off its Akitio MyCloud Pro which is targeted to retail at sub US$200 while sporting an Atom processor and a fair few other goodies.

Intel Storage Forum 2012

Earlier today VR-Zone attended the Intel's Storage Forum 2012 in Taipei, Taiwan and although the company didn't reveal any big news at the event, one message was very clear this year and that is that Intel is investing heavily into storage solutions. At the event Intel talked about everything from entry level "Personal Cloud" devices, to SSD's, 10Gbps Ethernet all the way to Xeon powered solutions.

Micron CEO Steve Appleton has passed away

Sadly, we've just heard that Micron's CEO and chairman Steve Appleton has died at 51 years of age on Friday morning as the result of a small plane crash at Boise, Idaho. it's been reported that Appleton was flying alone in his Lancair fixed-wing single-engine stunt plane when something caused the plane to malfunction and plummet to the ground.

The date is set for QuakeCon 2012. Will we see Doom 4 shown off?

Today Bethesda, id's parent company revealed the dates and venue for this year's QuakeCon event, one of the largest and longest running LAN parties in existence. The event will be held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, running from August 2nd to the 5th. The Hilton Anatole has hosted QuakeCon for five out of the last six years and is offering a special rate for attendees.

AMD TFE 2011 report

Yesterday we attended AMD's Technical Forum and Exhibition, or TFE as it's simply called and this was the 7th time AMD held the event in Taipei. Although AMD didn't' talk too much about its future products, there were a couple of glimpses of new technology and there was also an NDA press briefing for the upcoming FX-processors from AMD, but sadly we can't tell you about it, yet.
