One of the biggest gripes most people have had with the Eye-Fi cards is the limited storage space on offer, as to date the company has only offered 8GB cards at the most, something that has at last put off some people from investing in the standard. Now PQI has come up with a solution of its own that solves the storage problem permanently in the shape of the Air Card which is an expandable Wi-Fi SD card.
While there are a lot of internal arguments between JEDEC members when exactly DDR4 is supposed to arrive on market (2013 or 2014), Micron is pressing forward with the first evaluation DDR4 prototypes operating at 2400 MHz.
Patriot Memory announced today the release of Extreme Performance SDHC/SDXC UHS-I flash storage. The new cards are capable of reaching speeds up to 50MB/s read and 35MB/s write, which of course means that they are Class 10 compatible, making them ideal for high performance imaging solutions. The company will offer the new cards in capacities ranging from 16GB up to 128GB.
The latest announcement from SanDisk suggests that we can expect even cheaper flash memory in the near future, as well as being able to store much more data within the same size memory chip. Jointly with Toshiba, SanDisk has created 128Gbit NAND flash using its 19nm manufacturing technology, no small feat, but not entirely free of caveats.
A Japanese manufacturer by the name of Green House has just released its new GH-UFI-XSA series of 'industrial grade' USB Flash Drives that use Single-level cell NAND chips.
Kingston appears to be only the first in what might be an industry wide move towards reducing pricing for NAND flash based products, as no SanDisk is reported to be following in Kingston's footsteps. SanDisk is said to be slashing the price of its retail flash memory cards and USB drives to keep up with the competition.
With speculation that both motherboards and potentially DRAM will be increasing in price in the next few months, it looks like NAND flash based products aren't following the same trend. Kingston is said to be dropping is pricing on at least some of its NAND flash based products by as much as 15 percent.

Although Intel will be incorporating USB 3.0 support in most of its 7-series chipsets and AMD already having support in its A75 chipset, we're still a long way from ubiquitous USB 3.0 support and both Intel and AMD won't be offering more than four ports as standard. Memory maker Team Group rolled out a revised version of the X101, a mid-range USB 3.0 flash drive. The X101 was first launched in May 2010, but back then despite its lower transfer rates, it was deemed a high-end offering. The new, redesigned X101 is available in capacities of 32 GB and 64 GB. It offers transfer rates of up to 120 MB/s (read) and up to 70 MB/s (write), which makes is roughly as fast as a 7,200 RPM internal hard drive, only a lot more responsive due to much lower access times.
