Eleven Years of Goog11e

On Sunday September 27 2009, Google, the number 1 search engine in the world, celebrated its 11th birthday with a new logo, featuring an extra “l” to the name Google (anyone saw it?). PCWorld has an article discussing the search and advertising giant’s eleven year history. For most users out there, Lycos, eXcite and Yahoo was probably the search engine of choice before Google made its debut in 1998. Google has certainly come a long way (thanks to 2 men, Larry Page and Sergey Brin) since its inception as a Stanford University research project in 1998, to the global, multi-billion dollar company it today is. Google’s a classic “rags to riches” fairytale if you ask me.

Google, Bank Resolve Issue Over Misfired E-mail

A week ago, we had news that Google was sued by a bank over sensitive E-mail sent to a wrong Gmail address by the bank’s employee. Apparently, the issue has been resolved with Google deactivating the Gmail account on the judge’s order. According to Cnet news, the Gmail account will be frozen until the court approves Google’s motion to dismiss the case and vacate the TRO (Temporary Restraining Order). It’s certainly a relief for both sides to be able to close the case amicably within such a short span of time, however, if Google had stood firm and insist on appealing the judge’s decision, it might have taken a much longer time to resolve the issue.

Google Rebuts Microsoft over Chrome Frame security

In our earlier post, Microsoft has lambasted Google over its "Chrome-in-IE" plan. Google has hit back at Microsoft today, defending its new Chrome Frame plug-in, and says it makes IE more secure, not less. Read the article now on Computerworld and enjoy the mudslinging!

"Accessing sites using Google Chrome Frame brings Google Chrome's security features to Internet Explorer users," said a Google spokesman today. "It provides strong phishing and malware protection, absent in IE6, robust sandboxing technology [in IE6 and on Windows XP], and defenses from emerging online threats that are available in days rather than months."

Microsoft Blasts Google's Chrome-in-IE plan

Google has raised the ire of Microsoft by releasing Chrome Frame, an open source plug-in which allows people to run Google Wave from within all versions of Internet Explorer. For those who do not know, Google Chrome Frame is a plug-in for Internet Explorer that lets people use Chrome from within Microsoft's web browser. This allows users who are stuck with the 8-year-old Internet Explorer 6 to run Chrome, Google's Web browser, inside IE. Certainly good news for the many users still stuck with IE6 but apparently Microsoft isn’t too happy with it.
