Hands on with Asus' Eee Pads at MWC

We got a chance to spend a few minutes playing around with a couple of prototypes of Asus' Eee Pads at the Mobile World Congress and  although it was clear that these models were far from production ready units, Asus will have something on offer that none of its competitors currently has. The big selling point of both the Eee Pad Transformer and the Eee Pad Slider is the fact that they have near full size QWERTY keyboards which makes them productivity devices and not just consumption devices.

Japanese NTT Docomo was demoing some of its rather unique phones at the Mobile World Congress and one of the more interesting devices that was on display was the Sharp Lynx 3D SH-03C which features a 3.8-inch 800x480 pixel glasses free 3D display. This Android handset is exclusive to NTT Docomo and was developed specifically for the operator by Sharp, one of many partners that develop unique phones for NTT Docomo.

Hands on with ViewSonic's new Android devices

After its success with the ViewPad 7, ViewSonic is continuing to expand its lineup of tablets and at the Mobile World Congress we got to spend a few minutes with ViewSonic's latest additions, the ViewPad 4 and ViewPad 10s as well as its new dual-SIM 3G Android handset, the V350. Sadly we didn't get a chance to see the ViewPad 10Pro, as ViewSonic had some problems with the demo unit when we visited their booth.

Intel talks 32nm Atom and Android, demoes MeeGo tablet

Intel didn't have a ton of new things to show at the Mobile World Congress beyond its new XMM platform for smartphones and tablets, but one thing the company is communicating very clearly at the show is that Intel will have Atom powered phones in the market later this year. These will be based on Intel's upcoming 32nm Medfield Atom processor which the company claimed will offer at least the same kind of standby power as the competition, presumably referring to ARM based products here. Intel also showed off a MeeGo tablet based on the Oak Trail Atom processor, although the company will also actively support Android on both tablets and smartphones.

We went past Acer at the MWC and got some hands on time with the Iconia Tab W500 AMD Ontario tablet that also doubles up as a netbook thanks to its keyboard dock. We also took a quick look at the Iconia Tab A500 and A100 Android tablets, both sporting a Tegra 250 SoC and Android 3.0.

The much anticipated and already leaked Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was launched last night at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain and VR-Zone was on location to get an early hands-on with the new PlayStation certified mobile gaming Android handset. Although the units on display weren't final production handset, we were impressed with what we saw and it's clear that Sony Ericsson is serious about its Android based products.
