Nvidia To Roll Out Cheaper & Greener 9600 GT Cards

Nvidia To Roll Out Cheaper & Greener 9600 GT Cards

We first told you about the GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition card a while back and now we have some sneak peek on the card itself. What differs from the current GeForce 9600 GT cards is the PCB itself. We can expect this card to be priced cheaper (less than US$90 perhaps) than the current 9600GT cards due to some savings on the PCB department. As such, this move by Nvidia will put a squeeze on ATI Radeon HD 4670 card which is currently priced at around US$80.

Nvidia Preparing GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition

Nvidia Preparing GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition

Nvidia will soon roll out a special edition of the GeForce 9600 GT card with lower power consumption. This card is known as GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition based on the new 55nm G94-350-B1 core. The reason why Nvidia called it Green Edition is because its core voltage is 0.1V lower than the current 55nm G94 cores thus reducing power consumption further. However, it has similar specs to the current 9600 GT lineup with 650MHz core and 900MHz memories. To check whether if the GeForce 9600 GT is Green Edition, it comes with a device ID 0x0624 where the current lineup is 0x0622.

Nvidia's Solution To Defective GPUs : Buy Our New Chips

Nvidia apparently has a solution to the problems faced by many in their notebooks powered by GeForce 8M series, that is, to encourage the OEM/ODMs to buy their new problem free chips. Of course, this doesn't solve the issues faced by current users and there won't be any replacement for them.

Nvidia has come out with a new GPU called NB8E-SET which is essentially NB8E-SE with the new underfill. NB8E-SE is used on many notebooks most commonly advertised as GeForce 8700M GT, GeForce 8800M GS or GeForce 9650M GS. NB8E-SET (G84-751) uses the new Hitachi underfill and is clocked at 625MHz core and 128-bit 800MHz GDDR2/3 memories similar to the current NB8E-SE.

GeForce GTX 295 Previews Out - NV Approved Benchmarks Only

As you can see that a slew of GeForce GTX 295 previews are out today, some 20 days before its official launch at CES next month. Certainly, it is a tried and proven method employed by the red camp previously. The main motive is to deter people from purchasing the HD 4870 X2 this Christmas and wait for their GTX 295 card instead. Apparently, the previews now are restricted to certain benchmarks that Nvidia wants the reviewers to test only. No card for you if you don't follow their rules :) Probably, those are the ones that offer the best performance advantage over the 4870 X2 but you will get a clearer picture when the NDA is officially lifted on Jan 8th.
