Nikon Announces 36.3-Megapixel D800/D800E

Nikon announced on 7 February 2012 the successor to the D700 after a three and a half year wait. The new D800 / D800E are almost the same camera with the exception of an 'E'nhancement to the D800E and a presumably a small price difference.

The D800/D800E is a Full Frame digital SLR also referred to as an FX body to distinguish the difference in the sensor size with the smaller sensor of Nikon's APS-C bodies being called, DX. The new digital camera is the first 35mm equivalent DSLR to receive and use a 36.3-Megapixel sensor. To ensure image capture is done well a new 91K pixel RGB sensor was developed and the D800/D800E gets the Expeed 3 image processing engine.
