Kingston appears to be only the first in what might be an industry wide move towards reducing pricing for NAND flash based products, as no SanDisk is reported to be following in Kingston's footsteps. SanDisk is said to be slashing the price of its retail flash memory cards and USB drives to keep up with the competition.
When it comes to flash memory there's no doubt that SanDisk is one of the major players, especially as the company has developed or at least co-developed most of the flash memory card standards in use today. Now the company has gone and announced what it claims is the world's fastest 128GB SDXC card, as well as a new iNAND Ultra chip using 19nm flash memory.
According to SanDisk, the SATA standard just isn't power efficient enough for mobile devices and the company is now proposing that a new low power SATA standard should be developed. The company wants to cut the power consumption of mobile SSDs by 10 times, which is no mean feat, but SanDisk expects this to be perfectly doable.
It's been nearly a year since SanDisk's last MP3 player; the Fuze+ which turned out to be a bit of a flop with its touch sensitive controls. On the other hands, SanDisk's range of Clip branded MP3 players have proven to be one of the most popular, low-cost MP3 players every and now the company is back with a new model, the Clip Zip.
SanDisk has finally entered the consumer SSD market after having made a wide range of OEM solutions for the past couple of years in various form factors. Its new Ultra branded range of SSDs are unlikely to break any speed records, but then again, they're not likely to break the bank either.
Ah, the joys of healthy competition in the market. Last week 20nm NAND Flash was cutting edge and now it's so, well, uhm, last week. Both SanDisk and Toshiba have separately announced that they'll be offering retail 19nm NAND Flash memory later this year. Reading the press releases it appears to be the same tech, but we can't be certain of it, but both companies announced two bits per cell NAND Flash with three bits per cell coming at a later stage.
Today, SanDisk, Sony and Nikon have jointly announced the proposing of new industry standards for next generation high-speed memory card format - CF6.0. Similar size to the CF card, the new format boasts faster speeds and larger capacities which are suited for high resolution images and high definition videos recording.

Update: The SanDisk Extreme SDHC 32GB card is now available at major retailers in Singapore at S$360. Also, the current 4, 8 and 16GB capacity SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards have been upgraded from Class 6 to Class 10.

At the Mobile World Congress, SanDisk has announced that LG's multimedia phone, Arena (KM900) has incorporated their 8GB iNAND embedded flash drive. The iNAND embedded flash drive has both data storage, as well as a boot capability, thus eliminating the need for a separate boot device.
