If you've been waiting for a triple-platter 3TB hard drive, then we have good news, your wait is over as Seagate has as the first hard drive manufacturers announced 1TB per platter drives. The new Barracuda XT series will the home for the new 347GB per square inch 1TB platter disks.

Eurocom, which specializes in desktop replacements, has cracked the 3TB storage barrier on a single laptop by cramming up to four laptop hard drives in its mobile server and mobile workstation lines.
High capacity laptop drives typically require three platters, resulting in a thicker drive. However, not only has Seagate managed to pack 750GB in two platters (and hence a standard 9.5mm drive height) in its latest Momentus, the ST9750420AS, the drive has a rotational speed of 7200rpm too. With massive storage capacity and speed, virtualization and cloud computing are just some of the tasks that can be done with Eurocom's new high powered mobile solutions.
Seagate has announced the FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB (STAC3000100), the industry's first 3TB external desktop hard disk drive. While still equipped by default with a USB 2.0 base, optional bases are available for USB 3.0 or FireWire 800 connections.
