Western Digital announces the S25 SAS drive for enterprise

Yes, Western Digital has now entered the traditional enterprise drive market with its first SAS hard disk drive, the S25.

It spins at 10,000 RPM, has a 2.5" form factor, and has SAS interfaces of 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s. Sequential transfer rate is clocked at 128MB/sec. And the drives have a 1.6 million MTBF estimate to go with them. With read and write seek times of just 3.6ms and 4.2ms respectively, these timings are even faster than the VelociRaptor.

Western Digital holds TV Mini media event in Singapore

Even though the WD TV Mini was announced last week, the manufacturer held a product launch this afternoon for the local media at the Conrad Centennial hotel. The TV Mini supports most video formats and will be retailing at S$129.

Western Digital Enters Solid State Drive Market


Western Digital have announced today that it will be entering the solid state drive (SSD) market with a acquisition of SiliconSystems Inc.

With the acquisition to be immediate, SiliconSystems will operate as WD’s Solid-State Storage business unit, similar to the existing business units of Branded Products, Client Storage, Consumer Storage, and Enterprise Storage.
